A KEISS mum has completed the first part of a "romantic fantasy" set of books that is now available to purchase at various outlets or borrow from Wick Library.

Sarah B Meadows donated two copies of In Pursuit Of Light to the library recently and looks set to have part two of the series out soon too.

"Book two is with my editor and she’s half way through it. And, I’m one chapter away from completing book three," said Sarah, who has been feverishly typing away on the eight-book set.

She started writing In Pursuit of Light on Boxing Day 2017 and finished it in just one month, going straight into book two.

"I wrote book one solidly, only stopping to eat and do the bare minimum of housework," admitted the mum-of-three.

Sarah calls the collection "new adult contemporary fantasy" with sub-genres of "romance, urban fantasy, sci-fi and epic fantasy".

"In book one a team of five tight-knit friends, each with their own unique abilities, are on what they think is just another mission in freeing captive humans. It is on this mission that they come across a girl who has been shackled to a wall, tortured beyond all comprehension, but still alive.

"Drawn to her in a way they don’t understand, they take her back to their home and begin healing her the best they can. But her wounds lie deep and the simple task of healing her becomes a battle within itself.

"During these hours, they discover that she’s not only a special race, but an extremely rare one which might harbour more powers than they have combined."

Book one is an introduction to the series and spreads over the course of just 48 hours. It is the beginning of something much larger, said the author, with plot lines embedded into each character.

Sarah also did the cover artwork which reflects the main female character.

The Peterborough-born writer grew up in a large family and moved to Essex to live with her father when quite young.

She lives with her husband, three children, two Welsh ponies, a Shetland pony and a cat on a 12-acre site one mile north of Keiss village.

"I have always had a passion for nature, drawing and writing. I love taking hikes, be they short or long, listening to music, drawing and of course writing. I was always encouraged to use my imagination, and now I am using it to write fantasy books."

Book one is available on Amazon, to purchase and through Kindle Unlimited. Paperbacks are also available in local book shops: John O’Groats Tourist Information Office, Caithness Gifts and Crafts in Watten, and The Gift House on Demspter Street, Wick. They are also available to buy from Sarah through her social media sites: Instagram @sarahbmeadows and Facebook www.facebook.com/19meadows
