A LOCAL beach clean group has now collected over four tons of rubbish from around the Caithness shoreline.

Dorcas Sinclair, of Caithness Beach Cleans, said a 30-metre length of net found at Castletown added half a ton to the overall amount.

She said: "It took 13 people an hour-and-a-half to cut it up into manageable bits."

The group, which can be found on Facebook, has now amassed over 200 members of whom more than 20 are active. Dorcas said: "Imagine if more were active – our beaches would be amazing."

Recently Dorcas presented certificates to a group of Keiss children, the Keiss Kleen Krew, who picked up 32 lb of rubbish during their first beach clean.

Those who took part were Lewis and Charlie Breeze, Matthew Mowat, Isla Jack, and Ella and Millie Merry. The Keiss team has since grown in numbers and has taken part in another beach clean.
