Keiss games plan gets go-ahead
A CAITHNESS village is to get a new multi-use sports court – if it abides by certain planning conditions.
The Highland Council’s North planning committee has granted planning permission to the Keiss Family Community Project’s proposal to create a multi-active games area (MUGA), fitness area and a picnic area in a green space in the village.
Chairwoman Vicky Mackay is overjoyed at the decision. "Obviously we are ecstatic that we have planning permission," she said. "Everything is starting to come together now."
The MUGA can be used for football, basketball, tennis, netball and a variety of other sports and the group hopes the local primary school will also be able to use it. "It will be good for the children to play on when the weather is not great or it has been raining," said Vicky. "That’s the idea behind it."
The group has been seeking funding and raising cash in order to rejuvenate the village for youngsters.

It is currently waiting on a funding decision from the Big Lottery Fund and LEADER in order to get work under way.
The local authority’s planning committee has imposed five conditions which are to be met.
These include coming up with plans for lighting arrangements and litter disposal as well as getting the area properly drained and having a plan for landscaping the surroundings.
The Keiss Family Community Project is among three local causes supported by North of Scotland Newspapers’ charity-of-the-year initiative.
The others are the Thrumster Park Regeneration Fund and Thurso Youth FC.
