Pupils and staff at Keiss and Bower celebrated World Book Day on Thursday by dressing up in costumes based on their favourite book characters and taking part in a range of activities.

At Bower Primary School, pupils dressed as Spider-Man, Peter Pan and a unicorn among other characters. Staff also dressed to impress, with Vicki Ross as Bad Nana, Claire Henderson as Betty O’Barley and Sara Davidson as Fantastic Mr Fox.

Staff at Keiss Primary School and Nursery also got in on the act. In the nursery, Linda Morrison, Caroline Manson and Carla Taylor dressed as Olaf the snowman, a witch and Gangsta Granny respectively. Lesley Richard sported a Hermione Granger costume, with Lyndsay Forsyth and Anne Duffy respectively donning Dalmatian and Mary Poppins outfits. Alison Bain oversaw proceedings at lunch as one of King Arthur’s knights.

The kitchen staff at Keiss put on a fabulous themed lunch thanks to Pamela Jack’s eye for quality and detail. Mary Poppins was the call and pupils enjoyed ice sculptures, fruit kebabs and vegetable skewers.

Head teacher Fraser Thomson sported a home-made Stick Man costume as he helped serve pupils lunch at Keiss primary.

“World Book Day is an extra opportunity for our learners to immerse themselves in reading, literacy and wider experiences across the curriculum," Mr Thomson said. "The staff team and learners have once again demonstrated their exemplary levels of dedication, commitment and enthusiasm.

"We have face-to-face and remote learning taking place right now. Today has demonstrated the positive atmosphere in both establishments as we edge closer to a full return for all pupils.”
