Microchipping can help a lost dog to be reunited with its owner.

FREE microchipping for all dogs in Caithness is to be offered along with advice for their owners from the Dogs Trust.

The UK’s largest dog welfare charity has two rehoming centres in Scotland and it has teamed up with Highland Council to provide the service.

The charity’s representatives will be spending a week touring the region, from June 6 to 10, providing free chips to local dog owners and also answering any general queries from dog owners while reminding them of the importance of keeping the contact details on their dog’s microchipping database up-to-date.

Microchipping is a simple and effective tool which helps to rapidly reunite lost or straying pets with their owners.

This in turn reduces the number of healthy dogs unnecessarily put to sleep and saves money for local authorities by cutting kennelling costs.

Caithness’s free session will take place on Friday, June 6, at Thurso’s lorry park opposite at the riverside from 9am to 12 noon and from 2pm to 5pm at Wick’s Riverside area, near Macleay Lane.
