THE Edinburgh and District Shetland Association staged a joint ceilidh with the Edinburgh, Leith and District Orkney Association and the Edinburgh Caithness Association in Leith town hall on Saturday.

It was the first such ceilidh arranged by the three associations.

Music was provided by the Bon Accord Ceilidh Band featuring Northumberland’s superb fiddler, Roddy Mathews.

The band performed many well-known tunes from Scotland and afar, and featured several "Shetland" pieces in its set.

A large company of members and friends enjoyed music from one of the best bands heard in Leith’s town hall for many years and even more enjoyed a traditional meal of stovies provided by committee members.

At the end of the evening members of the three associations expressed a wish the event should be held annually.
