John O'Groats gets ready for harbour day
FOR more than 20 years, John O’Groats has welcomed hundreds of tourists and visitors from across the far north to join in the celebrations of one of its most popular events on the social calendar.
Organisers are hoping on Sunday its Harbour Day celebrations will be the best yet with a fun-packed afternoon with something for everyone.
Lifeboat demonstrations will be carried out by RNLI crews from Wick and Thurso.
A helicopter rescue demonstration from the coastguard service in Shetland is also planned.
Committee member Walter Mowat said the event has come a long way from when it first began two years ago and the event, which raises money for Pentland Rifle Club and John O’ Groats FC, is always well supported.

"It has grown into the event it is today to help support two popular clubs as well as giving donations to local charities," he said.
"It’s a day of entertainment that John O’Groats provides for the public and thanking people for coming out to visit the village.
"If the sun is shining we always get hundreds of people coming out to John O’Groats, and it is a great social event."
The John O’Groats fire brigade will be present throughout the day, with a barbecue, bouncy castle and other various entertainment on offer. It also hoped the Wick Coastal Rowing Club will be making an appearance with their skiff Spirit O’ Wick and perform a rowing demonstration.
The Violet Leitch School of Dancing will be there to raise money for their fast approaching trip to Holland and other youngsters will be raising money to aid their trip to Belize.
Natural Retreats intend to have an appartment open for people to view at their hotel and Ness RIBS will also be offering Pentland Firth sea safaris.
The event begins at 1pm.
