John O'Groats was transformed into John O'Ghosts on Sunday as local businesses took part in an afternoon of Halloween-themed activities.

There were scary costumes, Halloween drinks and a "letter hunt" competition, while John O’Groats Story Festival arranged storytime sessions for children. These took place in both Groats Gifts and the Groatie Buckie Gift Shop as youngsters listened to stories from the John O’Groats book Finn and Friends.

An audiovisual presentation in John O’Groats Brewery featured some tales recorded for Wick Voices, the Wick Society’s oral history project.

Coordinator Ian Leith said: "The whole event was a collaboration by the various shops and cafés along with the distillery, and brewery, each using the Halloween theme to produce a range of spooky offerings."

The John O’Groats Book Festival has taken a new direction as the John O’Groats Story Festival, running a series of story-based events featuring local stories and using local storytellers.

Mr Leith points out that John O’Groats and the surrounding area is rich in "stories, histories, legends and folklore", with the festival team keen to maintain close links with local businesses.
