TRIBUTE has been paid to the late Robert Maclennan in the House of Commons by far north MP Jamie Stone.

Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, the Liberal Democrat MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross said: "I am sure that all members of the House share my sorrow in noting the recent death of Lord Maclennan of Rogart – Bob to all who knew him.

"In due course I’m sure that others will speak of his career and his role in the shaping of the Social Democrat Party and indeed in forming my own party.

"But, representing his old constituency, I want to put on record his fantastic 35 years of service to his constituents, regardless of their politics. And for that reason he was dearly loved the length and breadth of his vast constituency.

"I’m sure that we would all wish to send our condolences to his widow Helen and his family."

Details of Lord Maclennan's funeral have not yet been made known.
