The Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council (RBWCC) is looking for volunteers to help spruce up the town at several planned events over the next few weeks.
The community council is leading the series of events during this year’s Scottish Spring Clean that runs from March 19 until April 17.
Allan Bruce from the RBWCC said: "We have enlisted the help of Wick Paths Group (WPG) and between us we will be holding organised litter pick events each Sunday during the campaign dates.
"We would be delighted to see local businesses and community groups get involved, either by attending an organised event or by organising one of your own."
The planned litter picks are:
- WPG – meet at Old Herring Mart (Wick Harbour) at 10am on Sunday, March 19.
- RBWCC – meet at industrial estate and airport forest area at 10am on Sunday, March 26.
- RBWCC and WPG – meet at riverside car park (opposite Norseman Hotel) at 10am on Sunday, April 16.
If you haven’t got time to organise a full event you can still do your bit by doing a two-minute clean-up around your area, says Allan. "Why not nip out in the morning, over your lunch break, or in the evening and pick up whatever you can? It's easy."
- Grab a bag – a plastic 'bag for life' will do.
- Get outdoors and pick up any littered items you find. Remember, be safe and use gloves and a picker if you have one.
- Take a quick photo showing what you have collected and the RBWCC will promote your efforts and encourage others to join on its Facebook page.
If you feel this is something you would like to get involved with then please get in touch with Allan Bruce who can provide further information and litter pickers (telephone 07789555132 or email him at allan.bruce2@btinternet.com).
Remember to send a picture showing how much you have collected to the RBWCC Facebook page so the totals can be recorded for the Keep Scotland Beautiful website.
"Together we can make a real difference in our community," adds Allan.
