A Highland woman who has worked her career in events has decided to launch her own company.

Lorraine Christie wanted to provide opportunities for new and upcoming artists to have a space to perform, so she created LWC Events Ltd.

Having worked at Ross County and in the Coop as regional manager for many years previously, Lorraine’s dream was to expand what she was doing and ensure creativity was at the forefront.

She said: “Covid hit the music and event industry big time, so I wanted to create events and look at the new opportunities since the world has changed.

“I’ve done events for a long time and I had run some weekend events myself, but I could only do a couple due to my work commitments.

“When I left Ross County my dream was to expand what I was doing. I’ve started to work with many artists, with the majority being from Ireland. I’m managing and promoting their events.

“I love being able to think out of the box when it comes to events!"

She is certainly thinking out of the box as on May 4, Lorraine has arranged a Cowboy and Cowgirl Brunch Party at the Drumossie Hotel. The event will include line dancing and the very best of country music.

She said: "If Beyonce can do country, then so can Inverness!"

Lorraine is also working with the popular Highland band Scooty and the Skyhooks for their 40th anniversary tour, alongside helping organisations and businesses running events.

It may all sound rather challenging, but for Lorraine she is in her element when it comes to planning and running events which provide a memorable experience for all.

She said: “I love what I’m doing. It doesn’t feel like a job at all. It’s exciting and gives people an opportunity to do the job they love when it comes to music.

“So far we’ve had sold out events which has been great.”

However, challenges for Lorraine include the change in mindset that has taken place in people since Covid and the cost of living.

“Attendance at events has decreased since Covid,” she explained.

“People got used to being at home so it’s now about looking at how to change that behaviour to get people out, and the cost of living has had an impact too.”

For Lorraine, seeing people enjoy the events she is putting on and having fun is the one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

She said: “I love seeing the end result of the events and people enjoying themselves. People have gone through a hard, miserable time lately, so being able to see them have a good time after all the work that goes into an event is the best part.

“There are people in the music scene who are trying to make a full-time career out of what they do.

“It’s good to support younger people starting out in the industry and give them a chance. I’ve had chances in my life to move up the ladder so I think it’s important to do the same for others.”
