Inverness man found with wallet belonging to person from Caithness

A Caithness man's wallet was found when police searched a 38-year-old Inverness man.

Craig Cornish, of Telford Street, had been arrested on another matter on February 10, 2021 and was subject to a routine search by police, Inverness Sheriff Court heard on Monday.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood that the wallet belonging to the Caithness man was found in Cornish's possession, still containing his cards. He said it had gone missing after the owner had "a medical emergency" in Inverness and was taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.

Defence solicitor Marc Dickson said his client had found the wallet on the street and "took no great steps to return it".

He added: "He is on a drug treatment and testing order and seems to be doing well."

Sheriff Fleetwood ordered Cornish to carry out 75 hours of unpaid community work as an alternative to a fine.
