Inverness Airport railway station will be officially opened on Thursday by transport minister Jenny Gilruth

Inverness Airport railway station will be officially opened by Scotland's Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth on Thursday, it has been confirmed.

The £15 million station aims to make it easier for people to get to and from the airport as well for those living nearby to get into and out of Inverness without a car.

Work on the station started in October 2021 to create 64 parking spaces, 10 electric charging facilities, four disabled spaces and cycle parking.

That will allow for improved travel links to the growing Inverness Airport Business Park and the new town of Tornagrain, to the south.

The station itself will have two platforms on the Aberdeen to Inverness line with step-free access, via a footbridge with lifts as well as a passing-loop.

It was hoped the station would open before Christmas but Network Rail revealed that it would be delayed until after the new year.
