INTERIM ELECTIONS 2024: 13 Highland community councils formed: do you have new representatives in your area?
Thirteen Highland Community Councils have been formed following a call for candidates.
Nine community councils received more nominations than members vacancies, meaning there will be elections held.
And nine community councils failed to form as the number of nominated candidates fell short of the minimum required to form a community council.
After close of nominations today, the following local representative bodies have successfully formed:
Balintore and Hilton
Cromdale and Advie
Dalneigh and Columba
Dalwhinnie
Dulnain Bridge
Grantown On Spey and Vicinity
Merkinch
Muir of Ord
Nairn West and Suburban
Resolis
Small Isles
Stromeferry and Achmore
Tain
The following nine Community Councils have received more nominations than member vacancies available:
Ballachulish
Cawdor and West Nairnshire
Creich
Dornie and District
Golspie
Nigg and Shandwick
Sleat
Sunart
Waternish
Candidates have the option to withdraw their nomination by 12 noon on Tuesday, February 6.
If there are still more nominations than the maximum membership, then a postal ballot will be held.
Ballot papers will be posted out to voters and the results will be declared on Tuesday 19 March 2023.
The nine community councils that failed to form, and will now be dissolved, were:

Bower
Carrbridge
East Nairnshire
Glendale
Inver
Muirtown
Portree
Smithton
