Inconsiderate dog owners are being accused of driving visitors away from Dunnet Forest.

ONE of the area’s most popular visitor attractions is being ruined by inconsiderate dog owners, claims a former resident.

Thurso woman Caroline Earnshaw (38), who now lives in Dunblane, blasted those responsible who fail to clean up after their animals and said they could drive visitors away from Dunnet Forest.

Mrs Earnshaw, who was visiting Thurso with her children during the October holidays, said she was disgusted by what she saw.

She said that her children and nephew found the dog dirt unavoidable while playing in the area.

The situation was so bad, she said, that there were numerous piles of dirt in the car park area, despite a dog bin being located there.

"Within the first 100 metres of the walk I counted no less than 15 piles of dog dirt on the tracks," she said. "One of the children became so messy we had to go home only 15 minutes after arriving.

"It is a great shame that a place that both my children and I love has been tarnished by this visit."

Dunnet Forestry Trust committee member Will Menzies said that the problem has gone on for years, despite numerous attempts to address the situation.
