Ian Grant (independent)
I AM delighted to put myself forward as an independent candidate for Thurso.
I grew up in Wick and my father was from Castletown and my mother from Halkirk. So my family have deep-rooted connections with Caithness. For the past eight years I have been a member of Caithness West Community Council and I continue in this role.
Working at Dounreay as a firefighter, I am very aware of the issues that the rundown of Dounreay will cause for the community. Dounreay employs more than 2000 highly skilled people. Many will be out of work as early as eight years’ time. With this in mind, I feel that the council has a responsibility to ensure the upgrade of all transport infrastructure to enable us to attract new businesses. It is very important that all families have a secure future here and that our young people also have hope for their future.
Like many, I signed the petition to stop the cutting down of the trees in Sir John’s Square. Only a local person knows the passion we feel for these trees, so it’s imperative that we have local voices to represent us at Highland Council meetings.
Vote for me and your vote will not be wasted. I shall fight tooth and nail for you, for the issues that concern you and the issues that affect Thurso.
