AN Essex man is thought to have become the first person to successfully run unaided from the most north-westerly point of the UK mainland to the most north-easterly.
Graham Biner (39) successfully completed the Lighthouse Challenge from Cape Wrath in Sutherland to Duncansby Head in Caithness.
He took four days to complete the 122-mile run which he undertook in memory of his wife, Liz, who died from breast cancer in September last year.
Speaking after he had completed his challenge, he said he was tired but proud of what he had achieved.
"This was the first time that I have taken part in anything like this," he said. "When Liz was receiving treatment for cancer, we had hoped that once she had got better we would have been able to have done it together. But I decided that I would do it anyway in memory of my wife."
For part of the route, Graham was joined by his 12-year-old-son, William, who ran an impressive 45 miles.
Over £7000 has been raised for Havens Hospice, an adult hospice charity which looked after Mr Biner’s wife while she was receiving treatment.
