Wick's Rosebank Playing Fields will again be transformed into a winter wonderland with a Santaland themed park.

Claire Mackenzie, chairperson of Wick Christmas Lights Committee, gave an update on the festive preparations at this week's meeting of the local community council.

She reported that Santaland will start on Wednesday, December 8, and will continue on Friday 10th, Sunday 12th, Monday 13th, Thursday 16th and Friday 17th.

Santa's sleigh will be going around the streets of the town on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th.

The town's Christmas lights will be switched on during Wick Fun Day on Saturday, November 27, at 4pm.

Mrs Mackenzie said: "It's looking good. Santaland has just totally overwhelmed us, to be perfectly honest. Over the five nights that we're open to the public we have over 500 people going through it.

"We've got one special night that we're opening for Caithness Klics [young carers project] so that they can take some of their clients and they can have the place to themselves and wander round and enjoy it all.

"That's what it's all about. Last year we had the autism group and it was lovely to be able to give that back to them. This year Caithness Klics have asked, so we're going to accommodate that."

Mrs Mackenzie said afterwards: “We are really looking forward to getting back to some kind of normality this year, thankfully. It will be good to see the town together again.”

Wick Community Market hopes to have around 20 gazebos available for a market in the town centre during the run-up to the festive season.
