The Humanist Society Scotland is looking to add to its team of humanist celebrants in the far north and Orkney to conduct naming, wedding and funeral ceremonies.

Director of services Lynsey Kidd said: “Every year Humanist Society Scotland’s registered celebrants prepare thousands of unique, personal and meaningful ceremonies to celebrate life, love and family. We’re keen to train people living in the far north of Scotland and Orkney to create a celebrant training team that extends right across the country and reflects the rich mix of people living across Scotland.”

Humanist Society Scotland will be holding a series of short presentations in Orkney and Wick on October 15 and 16 respectively.

The Orkney session will be held in Stromness Library and would-be celebrants are invited to pop in for the short information sessions running at noon, 1pm and 2pm. The session in Wick will be held in Mackays Hotel with sessions at 11am, noon, 1pm, 4pm and 6pm. They are drop-in sessions and booking isn’t required.

The sessions will be run by Lynsey Kidd and Stuart Struthers.

Stuart, a registered celebrant who runs the celebrant training courses with Lynsey, said: “We have celebrants across Scotland, all from different backgrounds with different experiences. Our celebrant training gives people the chance to work for themselves with training and support from Humanist Society Scotland – the longest-standing and most trusted provider of humanist ceremonies in Scotland.”

Lynsey added: “Last year celebrants trained by the Humanist Society Scotland performed over 6000 weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies. All celebrants trained by the Humanist Society Scotland become part of a supported and supportive network of celebrants, and we hope that these information sessions help to strengthen our celebrant network in the far north of Scotland and Orkney.”
