Holocaust Memorial Day tribute by Mackays Hotel in Wick

As millions across the world remembered those who died during the Holocaust a hotel in Wick paid tribute with a special light display on Monday.

The owners of Mackays Hotel lit up the building in purple lights on January 27 for International Holocaust Remembrance Day which marked 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi-era death camp by Soviet troops towards the end of WW2.

Hotel owner Ellie Lamont said: “We wanted to show our respect to the millions who suffered and died.

“The Holocaust was one of the darkest times in history, and it’s important to remember it so something like this never happens again.”
