Highlands likely to be placed in coronavirus Tier One

THE Highlands looks set to have Covid-19 restrictions eased when the First Minister reveals which tier the region will be placed in.
Low transmission rates of the virus will almost certainly see the Highlands placed in Tier One when Nicola Sturgeon makes her announcement.
It will be welcome news, particularly for the hospitality sector as bars and restaurants will be allowed to serve alcohol indoors.
But it's also likely to come with travel restrictions between the region and Tier Three areas like much of the central belt as well as a restriction on home visits.
It's thought that Moray and the Islands will also be placed in Tier One.
The news was revealed in a leaked letter from the Scottish Government to Sally Loudon, chief executive of the Convention of Local Scottish Authorities, the umbrella organisation for local councils.
The details of the tiers will be discussed by MSPs today and an announcement is likely either later today or tomorrow.
