Crossroads and Bower primary schools and their early learning centres, Scallywags and Busy Bees, joined forces for a morning of Highland Games fun and competitions.

Crossroads hosted the event this year, re-establishing the games that previously were held annually. All the pupils had a chance to take part in racing, caber-tossing and putting the shot.

This was followed by the older pupils throwing the hammer, while the younger children threw the welly and the haggis. The favourite event for most was the tug of war, in which the nursery youngsters excelled.

Crossroads head teacher Pauline Pearson said: "It was lovely for the children to meet up in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. By having the children in mixed school teams they had the opportunity to establish new friendships and strengthen those already in place.

"We are already looking forward to next year's games".
