Highland Council winter road condition report

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time.

It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Road condition reports for Tuesday, 5 January 2021 are as follows:

Caithness

Posted at 08:19 Low temperatures and damp roads on all routes with odd stretches of ice on secondary routes, treating all routes as required. No other issues to report.

Sutherland

Posted at 08:06 Low ground damp roads / high ground a good sparkle and icy stretches. All roads treated, some hard packed snow (Kinbrace - Syre) wheel tracks black.

Skye and Lochalsh

Posted at 09:15 Negative road surface temperatures but drivers reporting dry road conditions. Primary and Secondary routes have been treated. Treatment extending onto all routes. Portree council footways being treated daily given icy patches. No problems otherwise to report overnight.

Ross and Cromarty East

Posted at 08:59 Negative road surface temperatures and damp roads. Dry, cold forecast over the next couple of days so all routes being treated. No known issues.

Lochaber

Posted at 08:35 Low road surface temperatures with icy frosty conditions. All primary routes are near completion and secondary will be ongoing. No other issues reported.

Nairn

Posted at 08:25 Icy conditions, particularly on higher ground. Snow showers on the high roads at present. A light covering of fresh snow on higher routes in places. Gritting all routes by priority.

Inverness

Posted at 06:24 Low roads wet / damp, dusting of snow on some high roads and 1 inch covering of old frozen snow between wheel tracks on some high roads, all roads to be gritted today

Badenoch and Strathspey

Posted at 08:23 Icy conditions. Snow showers in the north of the area. A light covering of fresh snow on higher northern routes at present. Gritting all routes today.
