Highland Council’s bulky uplift service under way again
Highland Council's bulky uplift service is reinstated from today.
The service was suspended on March 23 due to the Covid-19 emergency and the need to prioritise staff to provide essential waste and recycling collections.
The local authority’s website shows the items acceptable for collection and customers are advised to check the list before considering booking a collection. Black-bag waste is not accepted.
The service, which is for household waste only, needs to be booked at least two days in advance of when you would like your items collected, and there are set collection days for locations across the region. The cost for the service is £23.37 for up to three items or £46.73 for up to six items.
Councillor Allan Henderson, chairman of the communities and place committee, said: “I’m pleased we are now in a position to bring back the bulky uplift service. We now have the staff and resources to be able to return this service in accordance with health and safety guidelines, after it was affected by the restrictions associated with Covid-19.

"This is another key service being reintroduced to help the public manage their waste as we continue on our journey to recovery.”
He added: “If you have large items at home such as sofas and wooden furniture that you no longer need and are still in good condition, these could be donated to a charity for reuse rather than collected for disposal. Check with your local charity for details on the items they accept.”
All items listed at the time of booking should be presented at your usual bin collection point by 7am on the morning of your scheduled collection day. Council crews are unable to collect items from gardens, sheds or garages.
The crews are not permitted to enter properties to remove waste. To help reduce the risk of the spread of coronavirus, site staff will be adopting "robust hygiene standards".
The bulky uplift service can be booked using the online form which can be found on the Highland Council website. Alternatively, customers can book by calling the Highland Council Service Centre on 01349 886603
