Highland Council has agreed to handover the vacant Bignold House to Wick Academy Football Club, but first a Sheriff Court consent will be needed because the land is considered “inalienable.”
The building is currently vacant and the club are eyeing bringing it back into full use as an office and meeting space with tea facilities, hospitality space for sponsors and guests and to make available space for community groups to rent.
It is also planned to improve Bignold, which is adjacent to the pitch, by providing new toilets on the upper floor and disabled facilities on the ground floor.

The move was supported by councillors on the basis that it would see a rental income being received into the recently reactivated Wick Common Good fund as well as ensure the asset continued to be used, maintained and repaired by the tenant.
The proposal is for the club to pay a 50-year lease on the basis of full repair, maintenance and insurance with a rent of £1000 a year to be reviewed every five years.
The Caithness area committee members accepted the plan but it is unknown how long it may take the sheriff court to hear the application.
