AN additional bank holiday date has been endorsed by Highland Council to mark the crowning of His Majesty King Charles.

The day off for many will be on Monday, May 8, a meeting of the council’s corporate resources committee agreed today. (Wednesday)

The additional bank holiday will follow the coronation on Saturday, May 6.

The bank holiday has also been endorsed by the Scottish Government and other countries in the UK to mark the coronation.

Highland Council offices and schools will be closed and there will be minimal service provision such as emergency services, essential services and waste on May 8.

A request will be made to the Scottish Government for the council to reduce the number of teaching days to accommodate the additional public holiday.
