Highland Book Prize open for entries
The 2020 Highland Book Prize is now open for entries.
The annual competition aims to bring recognition to, and develop a readership for, books created in or about the Highlands. Works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and short stories with a strong connection to the Highlands are eligible.
Submissions will close at 5pm on August 19. To submit an entry, or to find out more about the prize, visit www.highlandbookprize.org.uk/apply
The winner will be announced at an event at the Ullapool Book Festival in May next year, receiving a cash prize of £1000 and a place on a writing retreat at Moniack Mhor Creative Writing Centre if the pandemic allows.
Books must have been (or due to be) published in the UK between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020, and should comply with one of the following criteria:
- Promote or concern itself with Highland culture, heritage or landscape
- Have a significant amount of activity set in the Highlands
- The author(s) must have been born/brought up in the Highlands
- The author(s) must have lived in the Highlands for six years or more
Entries can be submitted by email to highlandbookprize@moniackmhor.org.uk

The organisers will accept draft copies of books that are due to be published later in the year.
Presented by the Highland Society of London, the prize is facilitated by Moniack Mhor and Ullapool Book Festival. The William Grant Foundation provides funding to encourage public engagement with the Highland Book Prize.
