THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the Highlands.

Frequent and occasionally heavy snow showers are likely across the North tomorrow, particularly on high ground.

Between five and 10cm of snow is possible on ground above 200 metres, with a risk of as much as 15cm above around 300m to 400m. Drifting is likely in strong westerly winds.

At low levels some temporary deposits of snow are possible, mainly in the Far North. Icy surfaces will be an additional hazard where freezing occurs following showers.

The warning is expected to last until Friday morning.

Locals have been warned there could be disruption to transport and advised to take extra care.
