TWO new heart machines get the thumbs up from Caithness General hospital’s accident and emergency team.

The latest ECG machines, which measure heart rates, were donated by Caithness Heart Support Group which provided the funding of £10,818.

It was one of the biggest-ever purchases by the group and the equipment was pressed into service as soon as it arrived.

The machines means that heart checks can now be processed quicker, more efficiently, and results automatically sent to Raigmore hospital in Inverness.

Noel Donaldson, chairman of the support group, which raises funds for hospitals and GP surgeries in the county, said: "The A and E department at Caithness General do a fantastic job and we were delighted to have been of assistance to them and their patients.

Providing them with the latest technology couldn’t have come at a better time as one of their old ECG machines had broken down. The replacements will also enable other departments to access them when necessary."

Mr Donaldson added: "As always, our ability to fund such replacements, which in many cases would not otherwise be available to local hospitals and GP surgeries depends entirely on the support we receive from our loyal public."

Members of the A and E department's medical team are (from left to right) staff nurses Hannah Tait and Catriona Sinclair, Victoria Worrall, senior charge nurse and Nova James, lead advanced nurse practitioner.
