Healing Hub: I totally feel the benefit from it
Regular users of the Healing Hub report significant improvements in their health – and also speak highly of the small team of volunteers who operate the oxygen chamber in Wick.
Kimberley MacDonald (44) from Thurso started to experience symptoms of multiple sclerosis in 2020 and was diagnosed in 2021. She has been attending the centre at the Braehead for a year or more.
“The benefit I feel mostly is my tongue,” Kimberley explained after arriving for her latest session on Friday.
“I have a very numb tongue, almost like when you’ve been to the dentist and you have a filling or something done and the numbness is starting to wear off.
“I could feel the numbness in my tongue, down my throat. I don’t have that any more and I totally put it down to this.

“When I was diagnosed with MS I was having a really, really bad time and I thought, ‘I’m going to get in touch with the ladies and find out if I can come to the oxygen chamber.’ I come every week now.
“I totally feel the benefit from it.”
Other comments from regular users:
“I’ve been attending the Healing Hub regularly for three years and I cannot believe the benefit to my health over this time. Swollen joints are now moving easily. I cannot recommend the Healing Hub highly enough and how thankful I am for the dedication of all the volunteers.”
“A physiotherapist suggested my circulation could benefit from an oxygen boost from the hub to help the healing of a necrotic toe. I believe there is a benefit. The volunteers are very helpful and welcoming.
“I suffer from severe COPD [chronic obstructive pulmonary disease] and find the chamber improves my breathing.”
“Forty years of using the chamber has kept me walking, cancer-free and generally as healthy as someone with MS can be. My mobility is still good, although slower, but I can cope well.”
“Oxygen therapy has really helped with my recovery after a fall two years ago. I have one session a week and it makes a huge difference to my pain levels. The volunteers at the Healing Hub make such a difference.”
