Head-butter is jailed
A FOUR month jail sentence was imposed on a Caithness man after he assaulted the person who made “an unpleasant and rude remark” about his girlfriend.
Jason Crompton (39), of Wellington Street, Wick, head-butted John Begg and repeatedly punched him to the head to his injury, senior fiscal depute David Barclay told the town’s sheriff court on Friday. Crompton was on bail at the time.
Mr Barclay said Begg made what he regarded as “a funny quip” about the woman but Crompton did not take kindly to the remark. He lost his temper and head-butted Begg once and punched him a number of times to the head.
Begg admitted the offence which happened in Nicolson Street, Wick, on March 23 this year.
Solicitor Neil Wilson said Begg “reacted badly to the remark” which was made about his girlfriend and “briefly lost his temper.” “My client accepts responsibility for what he did but feels there was a fair degree of provocation. It was an unpleasant and rude remark,” said the agent.
Crompton’s sentence was backdated to May 1 when he was first remanded.
