VOLUNTEERS in Thurso have launched a bid to raise money to ensure the town’s Christmas lights keep shining for many more festive seasons to come.

The foursome of Ryan Mclean, Ashleigh Mackay, Louize Lowe and Marion O’Brien have planned two Halloween parties which are taking place on Saturday, October 29, at the Central Hotel function suite in Thurso.

In the afternoon, a children’s party will take place which will be followed by an adults’ party in the evening.

The goal of both events is to bring the community together to celebrate Halloween while raising money for Thurso Town Improvements Association (TTIA).

Tickets for the adults’ party are available from Tesco Thurso, Top Joe’s bar and Caithness Horizons museum.

As well as the Halloween parties, there are opportunities for guys and girls to have a full Halloween transformation to be turned into the nightmarish character they’ve always dreamed of.

Samarah Sinclair, of Enhance by SLS, Lisa Jardine, of Keep Your Hair On, and Christina Elder will be on hand to work on make-up, hair and nails during the afternoon event. Bookings can be made by contacting them direct or by asking for more information at Thurso Tesco or Caithness Horizons.

With expert help on hand, organisers are expecting the competition for the best-dressed prize will be a tough one to judge.

A raffle has been organised with businesses from across Thurso and the surrounding area supporting the cause by donating prizes.

Raffle tickets are available now from various shops in Thurso and the winner will be drawn on Halloween.

Organisers have also announced the return of the Christmas jumper fun day on Friday, December 2, when people are asked to wear something festive to work and make a donation to the Christmas lights fund.

TTIA aims to raise £11,000 by March in order to achieve the goal members set themselves last year of raising £30,000.
