MOUSTACHES and music combined for a fantastic fundraiser on Saturday night when a classic rock night was held at Skinandi’s nightclub in Thurso.

The event was staged by two rival teams taking part in the moustache-growing event, Movember, to help raise money for men’s health charities.

And help they did as Skinandi’s house team and members of Frothin’ at the ’tache raised over £700 with the night of entertainment.

Skinandi’s manager and team captain Andy Crawford said he was taken aback by the response.

"I am amazed at how generous Skinandi’s customers are, I had hoped we would raise a couple of hundred pounds on the night but the final total blew me away," he said.

"We’re really grateful to everyone who contributed to this important cause"

A further £200 was donated by staff member Ryan Swanson who, because he couldn’t grow a moustache, was sponsored to have his head shaved.

Several members of Frothin’ at the ’tache were given plenty of space to show off their efforts when they took to the stage as rock cover group The Sellouts.

Frothin’ at the ’tache captain and Sellouts guitarist Darren Macleod said it was "a grand night".

"All of the band thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the crowd responded really well to the classic rock set we played," he said. "I had the easy job of standing on a stage playing guitar for an hour.

"Our collectors and the Skinandi’s staff were the ones that did all the hard work on the night.

He added: "They all did a great job collecting donations from the customers who gave extremely generously."

The night marked the culmination of a month-long effort to grow moustaches in support of men’s health.

Currently Frothin’ at the ’tache’s total stands at £1677 with money still to be added.

Darren said he had greatly enjoyed growing a ’tache and was glad that all the teams had received strong support and encouragement for doing so.

"People have been so generous in sponsoring all of our team members throughout the last month," he said. "We didn’t think we would raise as much as we did.

"We are so incredibly grateful to all those who contributed to a great cause."
