A LOCAL gymnastics club has donated more than £2000 to Caithness General Hospital after a fundraising drive to cover set-up costs.
North Apex Gymnastics Club (NAGC) in Wick, which has acquired over 100 members in the past 12 months, relies on High Life Highland and Wick High School's PE department allowing it to borrow equipment.
Gymnastics equipment is a huge expense, with a standard piece of equipment costing around £2000, so members decided to hold a sponsored tumble in the summer.
Around 100 gymnasts took part over the space of five hours and completed 11,228 jumps, flips and tricks.
NAGC also wanted to have the chance to give back to the community and decided to split the money raised with Caithness General Hospital.
The Bank Guest House and Gunn Timber Preservation donated a prize to the club, which was given to the adult and gymnast who correctly guessed how many tumbles they would do over the five hours.
Along with the gymnasts' fundraiser, the coaches, and willing friends and partners, took part in their own sponsored event and completed the eight-mile Tough Mudder Scotland on June 15. They finished this in just over five hours.
The result was that the club raised £4674.20, with £2337 going to the hospital for its Fundus ophthalmic camera fund.
