THE Olympic torch will be making a brief appearance at John O’Groats as it makes its way round the Highlands over three days in June.

It will be at Groats on the evening of Sunday, June 10, on the way back from visiting Kirkwall in Orkney and Lerwick in Shetland.

The Olympic Torch Relay will arrive in the Highlands on Saturday, June 9. A highlight of the visit will be a celebratory concert at the Northern Meeting Park in Inverness.

Highland music and culture will be represented by the Inverness Festivals Band and Bruce Macgregor and friends.

As well as Inverness, the torch relay will pass through a number of North communities including Fort William, Spean Bridge, Drumnadrochit, Stornoway, Aviemore and Grantown-on-Spey.

To help communities prepare for the visit, the Highland Council has arranged a series of local meetings to provide information and talk over suggestions to mark the event. All local groups and individuals with an interest in the relay are welcome to attend to share ideas and devise a programme for each community.

A date for a meeting in John O’Groats will be set for early next month.
