A Caithness man has admitted charges of assault and possession of a Class A drug.

Eddie Macgregor (27) will be sentenced next month after he appeared at the town's sheriff court on Tuesday.

He pleaded guilty on indictment to having punched John Martin in Harper's Bar, Bridge Street, Wick, on May 1, last year, and having been in possession of cocaine.

Macgregor, of Heatherbell Cottages, John O'Groats, also admitted assaulting Sergeant Lee Milner at Wick police station on the same day, and spitting on him.

The accused also pleaded guilty to a further, unrelated charge of acting in an abusive manner towards Kevin Smith at Gunn's Terrace, Wick, on April 10, this year, and threatening to kill him. Macgregor was subject to a bail order at the time.

Sheriff Mark Lindsay continued the cases for a background report until June 27 when he will hear details of the offences and consider victim statements.
