New helpers have come forward to join the Wick Flowers team and play their part in brightening up the town for 2025.

Joanna Coghill, one of the existing volunteers, gave an update at the March meeting of the Royal Burgh of Wick Community Council, of which she is treasurer. Wick Flowers – formerly known as Wick Flower Baskets – is a subgroup of the community council.

Mrs Coghill explained that Donald Harper had been voted back in as chairman at Wick Flowers’ recent annual general meeting, along with vice-chairperson Ann Giles, secretary Anne Duffy and treasurer Martin Duffy.

“New helpers have added their names to our summer team which is a great boost,” Mrs Coghill said.

“Our spring containers have now been put out on display on the bridge, at Riverside House care home and at the Hempriggs war memorial.

“The spring bulbs are in flower down by the fountain at the riverside, up at the grassy area before Lidl and on the grass bank heading up George Street, as well as our long-established area by the French restaurant and town centre containers.

“We have put in grant applications to help us replace town centre and riverside wooden containers to lessen maintenance and watering, and our summer display plant order will be sent towards the end of this month.

“This year we will work with the Royal British Legion Scotland again with war memorial competition entries for Wick, and our work continues on the Assembly Room gardens.”
