A BARROCK-based business is celebrating after winning awards at a prestigious national competition.

Caithness Smokehouse got the approval of the judges in the Great Taste 2013 competition.

The firm, run by John Inglis, was awarded two gold stars for Smoked Butter and one gold star each for Smoked Mussels, Smoked Duck breast and Hot Smoked Salmon.

Mr Inglis was delighted with his latest success. “Having won two gold stars for Hot Smoked Trout last year Caithness Smokehouse was inspired to enter a selection of products in 2013. Winning Great Taste awards has brought us to the attention of chefs throughout the UK and we now send several products further afield. Our Smoked Butter was an ingredient in menus at Queens and Wimbledon tennis tournaments, the Ashes cricket series, along with a number of Michelin starred restaurants in England including Tom Kerridge’s The Hand and Flowers in Marlow and Ollie Dabbous’s popular restaurant in London. We will continue to develop new products and strive to bring local produce to the fore,” he said.
