BEAUTIFUL weather saw crowds flock to Castletown on Saturday night to enjoy the official opening event of the village gala.

Castletown Gala, which has been an annual fixture since the 1960s, aims to raise money for groups based in the village.

It is estimated over £900 has been raised so far during the event’s first three days.

Secretary Elizabeth Geddes said the response has been extremely positive and hoped it will continue.

"Attendances compared to last year have risen significantly," she said. "The beautiful weather has certainly made all the difference compared to last year which was a bit of a washout."

The celebrations kicked off on Friday night with a quiz and raffle which took place at the Castletown Hotel.

The gala was then officially opened on Saturday when Amy Mackenzie was handed over the crown as the new gala queen from her predecessor, Erin Mackay.

A parade of decorated floats through the centre of the village together with fancy-dressed collectors receiving donations from the public followed.

On Sunday, a fun day took place where families enjoyed a range of activities which included a car treasure hunt.
