Global social media outage for Facebook and Instagram users

Social media users worldwide have been hit by Facebook, Instagram and Messenger outages with error messages preventing login attempts.

The issue affects both desktop and mobile users and Downdetector shows a huge spike in users experiencing difficulties since around 3pm today.

According to online media reports, millions of users across the globe are unable to access their accounts and cannot log in to their Facebook profiles, as well as other services owned by the company, including Instagram and WhatsApp.

Instagram users reported that the photo-sharing social media platform is also down with more than 9000 outage reports.

Users of Instagram have reported problems with the app with more than 88 percent reporting on Downdetector. Other Meta-owned platforms seem to be experiencing issues too, including Threads and Whatsapp, a new platform that operates with Instagram.

Users submit problem reports on Downdetector; problem indicators are also collected from social media and other factors on the web.
