Girl taken to hospital after accident on Castletown to Thurso road

A TEENAGER was taken to hospital in Inverness after being hit by a vehicle on the A836 road on Monday afternoon.

The 14-year-old girl was taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick and later transferred to Raigmore in Inverness. It is understood her injuries are not life-threatening and she was transferred south as a precaution.

The A836 was closed for around two-and-a-half hours following the accident but reopened at around 6.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 4pm on Monday, officers were called to a report of a 14-year-old girl having been struck by a vehicle on the A836 between Castletown and Thurso. The girl was taken to Caithness General Hospital and later transferred to Raigmore Hospital. The road reopened around 6.30pm."
