THE Saga Sapphire passenger ship sailed through the Inner Sound in the Pentland Firth before becoming stranded off the Isle of Mull due to an Electrical fire.

The cruise liner had 1008 passengers on board when a fire broke out at 10am on Friday, knocking out the power supply on the ship.

There was no reports of injuries and the cruise ship was expected to continue its journey on Saturday.

The ship, whose home port is Valletta in Malta, was built in 1981 and was in the far north as part of its latest cruise. It was in Sinclair’s Bay and the Inner Sound and its presence attracted a lot of interest among local people.

It is believed the Saga Sapphire is the biggest ship to sail through the Inner Sound.
