WICK Gala Week came to its familiar conclusion on Saturday evening with the glow of the riverside bonfire illuminating a vast throng of spectators.

The procession of floats that started the week took place in beautiful sunshine and the annual bonfire and fireworks display came at the end of another pleasant day with no wind or rain to dampen the enthusiasm of the assembled crowds.

Gala chairwoman Anderina Cass was delighted at how the week went. "The gala went really well," she said. "The committee is delighted with the support and help that we had from the community and businesses alike."

Mrs Cass said that there were so many highlights of the week that it was impossible to single out one in particular.

She said: "It was a fantastic week. Our treasurer is still getting bills in so we don’t have a grand total but there was over £10,500 raised on Saturday, July 27, for the parade night."

Gala queen Maja Pearson said: "We had such a good turnout for all the events and it was lovely to see all the community taking part. It was just such an amazing week.”
