A NUMBER of fundraising events were held by the cadets of Halkirk platoon of Caithness Company The 1st Battalion the Highlanders ACF.

A grand total of £1060 was collected and on September 22 this was handed over to Help for Heroes representative Susan Somerset.

A spokesman for the platoon said: "This was a great achievement given the small number of cadets who took part in the fundraising events."

The evening also included a visit from the Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness, Anne Dunnet, who inspected the parade and talked with the cadets.

She also presented awards to the cadets for recent achievements.
