Fundraiser to help put young Caithness talent in the frame

The organiser of an exhibition set to open in Halkirk soon is seeking help to raise funds for framing artworks by local children.

Ahead of the Industrial Caithness exhibition in July, Sìdh Chailleann Art (sid-hay-lee-un-art) has launched a crowdfunder to support the growing of the project.

In May this year, storyteller Alex Patience visited Thrumster, Halkirk, Lybster, Watten, Bower, Crossroads, Dunbeath and Keiss primary schools. She shared stories of the types of work people have done in Caithness through the years and invited pupils to submit art to the exhibition.

Cally Maxwell from Sìdh Chailleann Art is currently setting up the forthcoming exhibition and said: “The students made pictures of ‘the industry they would like to be in when they are older’.

“There are pictures of vets, footballers, artists, crofters and some savvy pupils made half’n’half pictures – showing the type of work they’d like to fall back on, just in case. We’d like as many of these pictures to be in the exhibition as possible and the crowdfunder will help that.”
