‘From Wick to the West End and Beyond’ – actor to share success story that started with Wick Players





A former member of Wick Players, who has reached dramatic heights with his theatrical work, will be hosting an event at Moray Street in Wick on July 15.

Kenn MacDonald is originally from the town and learned to tread the boards in his early days with the local drama group Wick Players.

Kenn will be at the Moray Street Drama Centre on July 15 at 7.30pm to relate his story which will include pictures from the shows he has been connected with over the years.

“There are a few stories of what I have done, but I have never forgotten that my roots started with the Wick Players,” he said.

“It is really important to have someone to believe in you and to encourage you. If it wasn’t for Kathlyn Harper, I don’t know where I would have been. She encouraged my singing and acting.”

As a young man, Kenn trained at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, and for the last 23 years, has been artistic director of the Openbox Theatre Company – Hampshire’s innovative theatre in education company, which tours schools and brings the national curriculum to life through drama workshops and performances.

His national tours include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Elvis the Musical and A Slice of Saturday Night. Kenn’s West End credits include The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, Whistle Down the Wind, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Aspects of Love, Copacabana and Mack and Mabel. He works under the equity name of Glen Harper.

Kenn is a successful LAMDA teacher and has taught at Stagecoach Liphook for the last 18 years. “My real passion is working with youngsters and helping them to find their feet, build their confidence and help them to fly,” he adds.

Light refreshments will be available after the event on Tuesday, July 15, at Wick Players’ base on Moray Street. It is timed to start at 7.30pm.
