YOUNGSTERS across Caithness and north Sutherland found many colourful and imaginative ways to support the annual BBC Children in Need appeal last Friday.

In Thurso, Miller Academy Primary School and Nursery was a sea of yellow with lots of children and staff wearing pyjamas to help raise funds. Head teacher Jacqui Budge said: “It was just lovely to see our children all looking so cosy in their pyjamas and they were delighted being able to wear them to school.

"Different classes made different Pudsey-related items and learned a little about the fantastic work that this charity does to help children. We are so pleased that they managed to raise £284.63 for this, by having such fun.”

At the other end of the county, Dunbeath Primary School and ELC (Early Learning and Childcare Centre) raised £127.46 for Children in Need by "dressing down" and taking part in various activities.

Pupils and staff at Farr primary and nursery, Bettyhill, also enjoyed a busy morning of activities which included face-painting, colouring by numbers, decorating a biscuit, Pudsey stories and a sale of baking. They were proud to announce that a total of £78.65 had been raised.

P1-3 teacher Carol-Anne Farquhar said: “Thanks so much to all the parents and children who baked for our cake stall – we are delighted with your generous support."

The 2019 appeal as a whole raised £47,886,382.
