Freeze-up persists in far north

The Ord of Caithness was closed for a time on Thursday but has since re-opened though the A897 between Melvich and Kinbrace and the B873 between Syre and Altnaharra remain closed. All other major roads in the area are passable with care.

Thurso High and nearly all primaries and nurseries in Caithness and north Sutherland remain closed while Wick High is open though school buses have not been running.
