Fourteen new Covid-19 infections detected in NHS Highland area

ANOTHER 14 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the NHS Highland area in the past day.
The cumulative number of cases in the health board region increased from 842 to 856 when the latest daily update was published by the Scottish Government.
Across Scotland there were 1196 newly confirmed infections in the past 24 hours.
There have now been 45,232 confirmed Covid-19 infections across Scotland since the start of the outbreak – a figure which is almost double what it was just a month ago, and more than 15,000 higher than at the start of October.
A total of 629 people were receiving treatment in hospital for Covid-19 – a figure which was up once again, this time from 601 the day before.
And, of those, some 58 people were in intensive care – a rise of seven since yesterday's update.
Another nine people who tested positive have now died.
Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were new cases in the Western Isles (up one to 59) and Orkney (up two to 26) but no fresh positive tests were recorded in Shetland.
NHS Grampian detected 34 new infections, to take its cumulative total since the start of the pandemic to 2889.
