FOUR more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the NHS Highland area, taking the region's total number of known cases to 148, new figures have shown.

Three hundred and fifteen people have tested positive across the whole of Scotland since yesterday, taking the national total to 5590.

And 542 people have died across Scotland since the outbreak began, a rise of 47 on the same point yesterday.

In the Highlands, the number of people being treated in hospital with suspected or confirmed Covid-19 increased from 54 to 55. And the number of people in intensive care remained at seven at midnight last night.

A total of 212 people were in intensive care across Scotland overnight.

NHS Grampian recorded another 10 positive tests, for an overall tally of 261. Its hospitals were also treating 77 people in hospital for the disease, with 13 receiving treatment in intensive care.
